A recent tourism promotion program in the Periphery Sector has had unexpected results, according to a press release from sporting weapons manufacturer Golan Technologies, as permanent populations have seen dramatic spikes sector-wide.
According to company spokesman Waric Tosh the company had set out to construct a series of wilderness hunting lodges on worlds across the sector to promote tourism and hunting. "We wanted to provide tourists with expert guides who knew the weapons and the environs, and we advertised among our own employees first," said Tosh. "But we didn't expect this incredible response. Most of the construction crews ended up building homes for themselves, and about 40% of the workers at our Moddell production facilities -- who know those weapons better than anyone, I might add -- applied to emigrate."
Jhoren Yar, an electrician originally from Coruscant, was one of the construction workers who opted to settle permanently. "It was the sunsets, really," Yar said. "They were the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen, and they were completely unobstructed by the buildings and smog you find on other worlds. Being able to actually walk around and smell living things was a big plus too."
Yar, like many of the emigrants, has taken advantage of Golan's offer of financial assistance in relocating his family to the world. "I'd have stayed on a while anyway," he said, "because the pay is good and it'd be nice to be able to keep sending money back home, but I wouldn't have seen it as permanent. But if they're here with me, I don't think there's any place I'd rather be."
